President Ghani welcomed Governor-General Cosgrove in Kabul

Kabul, 4 October 2017 - Hon Sir Peter Cosgrove, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia was welcomed by His Excellency Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, President of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Kabul. 

 

Both heads of states discussed enhansing bilateral cooperation in the areas of security, economy and culture. President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani thanked the Governo-General for Australian Government's cooperation on military support and fighting against global terrorism and appreciated their support to the Resolute Support Mission. 

 

President Ghani expressed his tribute to the soldiers, fallen and those who are currently in service, to the Governor-General and thanked him and the people of Australia for there services in Afghanistan. 

 

Governor-General Cosgrove welcomed the United State's new strategy for Afghanistan and South Asia and assured that Australia will stand by Afghanistan the fight against international terrirsm and extremism. 

 

The Governor-General also extended Australia's support in the areas of mining and enhansing technical cooperation.

 

The Governo-General was also invited by the President of Afghanistan for a luncheon together with the Afghan National Cricket team.
